How to Spot a Scam – Part 6

by Mark

This is the sixth post in a series of articles that will help you avoid scams and invest your time and money into legitimate business opportunities. You can find the whole series in the Business Scams section.

One of the favourite tricks of scammers to entice you into signing up to their supposed business venture is to dazzle you with glossy pictures of big houses, sports cars, and tropical islands.

Live the Dream

These images fit the image of the dream of working only a few hours a week while making lots of money from a business. Image yourself driving around in your sports car or relaxing by the beach while your business runs on autopilot.

Hardly a day goes by I don’t see a new advertisement by a self-proclaimed business guru claiming to offer an opportunity of a lifetime. Usually they are claiming to give away little known secrets that they have used for many years to make money for nothing.

To sweeten the deal, they include pictures of things you can supposedly achieve by following their system. Fancy cars, mansions in the sun, expensive holidays, and lazy days on tropical islands. Show them the money, and they will show your more.

No Substitute for Hard Work

Don’t be fooled. Look past the glossy pictures and evaluate the offer as if it was any other business opportunity. Look into the fundamentals of the business, such as the products you will sell and the competition. Due your due diligence despite the fancy photos.

All businesses require hard work, and rewards such as big houses and sports cars can never be guaranteed.
