Good Old Fashioned Customer Service Still Alive

by Mark

The other day I went to the corner store near my office to buy a bottle of water. Even though I’ve been to the same store many times over the last few years, I’ve hardly spoken a word to the staff. Quiet but polite customer service is the British way.

When I went to pay for my water I discovered that I was ten pence short. The lady serving me told me not to worry and that I could bring her the money later.

The offer surprised me. I can’t remember the last time I was treated as a real person in a customer service situation.

I returned the next day and gave a different lady ten pence, after briefly explaining why. She seemed relaxed about the situation, took the coin and thanked me. I got the impression that this wasn’t the first time this situation had arisen.

So it seems good old fashioned customer service is alive and well at my local corner store. Can you say the same for your business?
